Sam grew up in Carnegie attending Carnegie Elementary and Carlynton High School. While in school, he kept busy with sports, academics, and working at Riley’s Pour House and the Carnegie Boys & Girls Club. Sam attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he studied history, public administration, and economics. Sam graduated with two Bachelors Degrees in May of 2024.
Sam began writing for IUP's school newspaper, The Penn, and rose to the rank of editor after only a few months. As an editor of The Penn Sam led a team of writers to cover the changes and financial challenges IUP and other universities are facing.
Sam has experience across different levels of government. As a Junior Council Person and intern for Carnegie, Sam helped to write the borough’s climate action plan. Sam wrote for the Gazette 2.0, covering school and local news. As an intern for State Representative Anita Kulik’s office, Sam helped constituents of all ages with state and county services.
Sam even interned for a United States Congressman in Washington D.C., gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process.
Now that Sam is back in Carnegie full-time, he is laying the groundwork for a Carnegie Comeback. After already deciding to run for Mayor, the Board of the Carnegie Community Development Corporation offered Sam the position of Executive Director. Sam accepted believing he could do the most good for Carnegie as Mayor and Director of the CCDC. Sam is already working to revitalize Carnegie's image with new and exciting community events. Sam is also working closely with business owners to provide support and to keep our Main Street alive and vibrant.
At 23, Sam is eager to put his experience to good use in his home of Carnegie. With his breadth of experience and roles in the community, Sam is uniquely situated to lead Carnegie to an overdue comeback.
Mayor Stacie Riley
