Sam grew up in Carnegie attending Carnegie Elementary and Carlynton High School. While in school, he kept busy with sports, academics, and working at Riley’s Pour House and the Carnegie Boys & Girls Club. Sam attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) where he studied history, public administration, and economics. Sam graduated with two Bachelors Degrees in May of 2024.
In college, Sam took courses on public administration, urban planning, and economic development. Sam began writing for IUP's school newspaper, The Penn, and became an editor after only a few months. As an editor of The Penn Sam led a team of writers to cover the changes and challenges IUP and other universities are facing.
While attending IUP, Sam stayed active in Carnegie. Sam served as a Junior Council Person and intern, helping to write the borough’s climate action plan. Sam began writing for the Gazette 2.0 until its shutdown, covering school and local news. Sam also interned for State Representative Anita Kulik’s office, helping constituents with state and county services.
This past summer, Sam achieved what few IUP students have achieved: a Congressional internship in Washington, D.C., gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process.
Sam recently accepted an offer from the board of the Carnegie Community Development Corporation (CCDC) to serve as the organization’s Executive Director. In this role, Sam will work closely with business owners to ensure that Carnegie has a vibrant Main Street.
Sam currently lives in an apartment in his Great-Great-Grandfather George Faunce’s old home with his girlfriend Olivia.
At 23, Sam is eager to put his experience to good use in his home of Carnegie. Sam understands the issues facing Carnegie and is ready to help solve them with energy and innovation.
